Pittcon 2008 Science Week Chairman Jim Bock, standing left, and Charles Holifield, Science Week chair-elect, standing right, along with Pittcon 2008 President John Varine, standing center, recognized teachers from New Orleans and surrounding parishes at the annual Scinece Week Teacher Recognition Dinner. Appreciation Awards were presented to acknowledge the teacher's help in promoting the Science Week program to their respective school districts. Bock and Holifield credited the grass-roots support from these science curriculum coordinators for the record turnout of teachers and students for this week's myraid of science workshops.
Dozens of teachers stepped up to the proverbial plate with their enthusiasm, leadership and focus on education in New Orleans and surrounding parishes after most of the area - and its schools- were devestated in the wake of Hurricane Katrina in August 2005. Each teacher was given a $500 grant, along with a plque in appreciation of each person's over-and-above-the-call-of-duty efforts. Science Week
ACS International Delegation Edmund King, of ACS, introduced a delegation of international, ACS-sponsored visitors to Pittcon 2008. They include Attitaya Siripinyanond (Thialand), Bernard John V. Tongol (Philippines), Lee Yook Heng (Malaysia), Lim Lee Hoon (Brunei), and Trang Nguyen (Vietnam).
