COME SHARE IN THE EXCITEMENT OF SCIENCE EDUCATION AT PITTCON® 2007!
The program of activities of the Science Week Committee is one way that the Pittsburgh Conference will be supporting and enhancing science education in the Chicago, IL area this year. A variety of excellent opportunities will be available to teachers, students, and science educators. Listed below are the specific activities that are planned. You may obtain more information, forms and/or instructions for these activities by clicking on the links below.
Science Education Award - application deadline extended -- now Nov. 15, 2006 Up to $25,000 will be awarded to a Greater Chicago Area or Surrounding County educational institution, business, or school district that submits the best proposal for furthering science education in the region. Teacher Excellence Awards - application deadline Nov. 22, 2006 Awards of $500 will be made to elementary, middle and high schools teachers who demonstrate outstanding commitment and achievement in science education.
Science Equipment Grants - application deadline Dec. 1, 2006 Awards of up to $500 in materials for elementary and middle schools and up to$1,000 in materials for high schools will be made for worthy proposals submitted by teachers or groups of teachers. Instructions (pdf file) Teacher Workshops - registration deadline Jan. 8, 2007 On Saturday, February 24 and Sunday, February 25, 2007 teacher workshops will be presented at the McCormick Place in Chicago lL. Workshops specific to elementary, middle and high school science will be available and registrants for the workshops will receive loads of supplies and materials so that they can immediately implement the principles and activities demonstrated in the workshops.

Registration form (Word file or pdf file) Student Workshops - registration deadline Jan. 8, 2007 On Monday, February 26 -Wednesday, February 28, 2007 student workshops will be presented at the McCormick Place in Chicago, IL. The 25-minute elementary and middle school science workshops will cover such topics as acids/bases, polymers, chromatography, and gases. Plan on bringing students from your class. High School Lecture-Demonstration Event - registration deadline Jan. 12, 2007 On Thursday morning, March 1, 2007 at McCormick Place Dr. Gregg Gould will educate and entertain with “Science You Can See” a lecture/demonstration. Reserve this date on your calendar and make plans now to bring your class(es) to this outstanding interactive lecture/demonstration. To make a reservation for your class(es) please fill out the reservation form and either mail it or email it so that it arrives at the Pittsburgh Conference Office by January 12, 2007.
