"SCIENCE YOU CAN SEE"

Thursday March 1, 2007, 9:30 am

McCormick Place Convention Center Chicago, IL

The High School Lecture Demonstration

Dr. Gregg Gould chairman of the Chemistry and Physics Department at California University of Pennsylvania will present a variety of physics and chemistry demonstrations, for High School students and their teachers, entitled Science You Can See that will “knock your socks off”.

Gregg will use some unusually large apparatus and multimedia tools to present scientific principles to the audience in an entertaining and educational way. The link between electricity and magnetism will be demonstrated. The density of objects and the medium in which those objects reside will be manipulated causing giant bubbles to float or sink. A large-scale standing wave generator and a variety of “singing” pipes will be used to illustrate resonance.

There is certain to be something to intrigue, inspire and educate anyone with even the slightest interest in science.

The Presenter

Dr. Gregg Gould received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Colgate University and a PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  He subsequently accepted a faculty position in the Chemistry and Physics Department at California University of Pennsylvania and is currently serving as the Chairman of that Department.

Gregg continues to be absolutely fascinated by the science involved in the way things work. Both in and out of the classroom he seeks to share this fascination with others and he finds that performing demonstrations of chemistry and physics principles is an excellent tool for this. Gregg is known in the greater Pittsburgh area for the high quality and level of audience participation in his Lecture Demonstrations.
