PHILATELIC CACHET
The 2012 Philatelic Cachet honors Edwin Hubble, an American astronomer who profoundly changed understanding of the universe by confirming the existence of galaxies other than our own, the Milky Way.
The first philatelic cachet souvenir was issued at Pittcon 1977 under the direction of Dr. Edwin S. Hodge, who served in 1959 as the President of the 10th Conference. The philatelic innovation was so well received that it was decided to prepare a different cachet and canceler for every Pittcon year, drawing attention to a special event, a particular branch of science, or certain key scientists.
